Eat & Lift

Questions and answers

Getting started

Is Eat & Lift free?

Yes. Everything you need to track your food and training is free, with no ads, ever: barcode scanning, the food library, stats, progress photos, friends, widgets and the Apple Watch app. Premium adds the AI coach and what's built on it, like meal and label scanning, Quick Add and plans, plus encrypted backups and share links.

Do I need an account?

No. Your diary lives on your phone and works offline. You only need an account for the AI features, backups and private links with friends.

How old do I need to be?

Eat & Lift is for people aged 18 and over.

Which devices does it work on?

iPhone and Android phones, and Apple Watch.

Which languages does it speak?

English, Bulgarian, German, Greek, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Arabic and Hindi. It follows your phone's language, and you can pick another in Settings → Language.

I used the old Eat & Lift. What happens to my diary?

Nothing to do. The first time you open the new version, your diary, food photos and chats with your coach move over on their own. They're read from your phone, so update the app rather than reinstalling it.

Food

How do I log food?

Search the food library, scan a barcode, or pick a recipe or one of your own foods. With Premium, you can also snap a photo of your plate, type or say what you ate and let Quick Add log it, or just ask your coach to log it for you.

Can I add my own foods and recipes?

Yes. Make your own foods, meals and recipes, and keep your favorites close. You'll find them in Settings → Foods and Settings → Recipes.

Can I plan my meals ahead?

Yes. Add meals and workouts to any day ahead, then check them off when you eat or train. With Premium, plans fill your days for you, and your coach can plan the next few days with you.

Does it work with Apple Health and Health Connect?

Yes, both ways, once you connect them. Weigh-ins, workouts, steps, sleep and more come in, and the meals you check off, water, weigh-ins and finished workouts go out.

Training

How do workouts work?

Start a workout from a routine or from scratch, on your iPhone or Apple Watch, and check off your sets as you go. Beat your best set and you get a trophy.

Can I build my own routines?

Yes. Build routines from the exercise library or your own exercises, with supersets, sets, reps and rest times.

Does it work on Apple Watch?

Yes. It shows your day, and you can check off meals, add water and run your workouts set by set, saved to Apple Health. Your calories, water, streak and even your coach can sit on your watch face. With Premium, tap your coach and talk to it just like on your iPhone.

The AI coach

What can the coach do?

Answer questions about your food and training with your own numbers, plan your next few days, react when you log a meal or finish a workout, and review your week with you. It can make the changes for you, and while Ask before changes is on, it asks first. It keeps notes about you, so it remembers what matters, and you can read and delete them in Settings → AI Coach → Journal.

Which coach should I pick?

Whoever you'd listen to. Max is a calm personal trainer, Payne a drill sergeant, Ada a sports scientist, Sunny your best friend, Marcus a stoic, Brody a gym bro, and Betty a grandma who's sure you're skipping protein. They know the same things and differ in how they say them. You can switch in Settings → AI Coach.

What does the AI coach see?

Only what you allow. Before you start, the app shows what your coach can see, all switched on, and you can switch any of it off then or later. It gets your messages and recent chat, the photos and recordings you add, and those parts of your diary, which can include health data, when you use it and for its reactions and weekly reviews. Progress photos are never sent.

Is my data used to train AI?

No. The AI providers we use don't keep your requests and never train on them.

Is there a limit?

Premium includes a weekly AI allowance, which starts over every Monday. Settings → AI Coach shows when it resets. If you use your own OpenRouter key instead, there's no allowance and OpenRouter bills you.

Privacy and backups

Can you read my diary?

No. Your diary lives on your phone, and your backups are end-to-end encrypted before they leave it: we store them, but we can't open them. Only what you choose to send, like a public link or a message to your coach, can be read on its way.

How do backups work?

With Premium, your diary backs up on its own from your first entry, end-to-end encrypted, and syncs between your devices. Restoring a backup is free. You can turn backups off or delete them in Settings → Backups.

What if I lose my backup password?

While you still have one of your devices, you can see it or change it in Settings → Backups. If you lose all your devices and the password, nobody can open the backup, including us, so keep it somewhere safe.

How do I export my diary?

Settings → Local Data → Export diary saves everything as a .eatnlift file. Keep it anywhere, and bring it back later with Import diary. The file isn't encrypted, so keep it safe.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Profile → Delete account. Your backups, links and friends go with it, and your diary stays on your phone. You can also email us at [email protected]. Deleting your account doesn't cancel Premium.

Friends and sharing

How does sharing with friends work?

Send a friend a private link. Once they accept, you see each other's streaks and the days you choose to share. Private links are end-to-end encrypted, and Friends is free.

What's a public link?

A page anyone with the link can open, such as eatnlift.com/u/your-handle, with your streak and what you choose to share. It isn't encrypted. Stop it at any time and it's gone.

Can I share a meal or a workout?

Yes. Send a share card, a picture of your meal, day or workout, anywhere you like, for free. With Premium, you can also send a link that adds a copy of a meal, a day, a workout, a recipe or a plan to someone else's Eat & Lift. Anyone with the link can open it, without an account.

Premium

What do I get with Premium?

The AI coach, with seven to pick from, and what's built on it: meal and label scanning, Quick Add by voice or text, plans and weekly reviews. Plus encrypted backups and sync, share links, and time savers like copying a whole day.

How do I cancel Premium?

In your App Store or Google Play subscriptions, at any time. Premium keeps working until the end of the period you paid for, and your diary stays as it is.

I paid for Premium but don't have it

Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple or Google account you bought it with, then tap Settings → Restore Purchases.

Can I get a refund?

Apple and Google take all payments, so ask them: on iPhone through Apple's Report a Problem page, and on Android through your Google Play order history.
